When a Small Band of Tissue Has a Big Impact
Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) happens when the lingual frenum — the tissue connecting the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth — is too short or tight, restricting tongue movement and affecting how your baby feeds, speaks, and develops.
Lip-tie occurs when the labial frenum — the tissue connecting the upper lip to the gums — is too tight or thick, restricting lip movement and making it harder for your baby to achieve a full, deep latch during feeding.
Laser frenectomy is fast, precise, and remarkably effective. Most babies feed more comfortably within minutes of the procedure, and with early treatment, you can avoid downstream challenges — from feeding difficulty and speech delays to sleep issues and dental crowding.
Meet The Doctors
Dr. Paddy (Dr. A. Patrick Smithwick) and Dr. Roger (Dr. Roger Castro) are board-certified pediatric dentists. (Fun fact: they were friends in dental school!) We recently welcomed pediatric dentist Dr. Meredith (Dr. Meredith Ghivizzani), Dr. Camille (Dr. Camille Carr) and Dr. Catherine (Dr. Catherine Rayburn) to round out the team. We offer a full range of pediatric dental services and orthodontic treatment for kids and teens in Denver. At Kids Mile High, we’re all about providing exceptional care and making the experience positive and fun to encourage a lifetime of awesome oral health.
Why Choose Us
Evaluations That Look at the Whole Picture
We assess feeding, speech, and comfort before recommending anything. Not every tie needs release, and we’ll say so honestly.
Precise, Gentle Laser Technology
Our Waterlase laser allows for a fast, minimally invasive release — typically with little to no bleeding and no stitches.
A Team That Welcomes Questions
No rushing, no jargon — just clear answers, so you feel confident in whatever we recommend for your child.
Care for Kids With Extra Needs
We’re experienced with special healthcare needs and sensory sensitivities, so every visit fits the child in front of us.
Helping Your Baby Feed Better, Sleep Better, and Grow
A tiny strip of tissue under the tongue or lip can make feeding harder than it should be — painful latching, clicking sounds, reflux-like symptoms, or a baby who just can’t stay satisfied. At Kids Mile High, we help families figure out what’s behind it, with gentle, function-first tongue-tie and lip-tie evaluations.
When treatment is the right call, we use our Waterlase laser for a release that’s quick, precise, and designed for comfort.

Frenectomy FAQs
How do I know if my baby needs a frenectomy?
If feeding is painful, slow, or a struggle, it’s worth an evaluation. We’ll assess mobility and give you an honest recommendation either way.
Is the procedure painful for my baby?
The Waterlase laser is precise and minimally invasive — most babies are calm within minutes and can feed shortly after.
Will my child need stitches or anesthesia?
Typically no. Most frenectomies are done in-office, quickly, without stitches or sedation.
What if my older child's tongue-tie is affecting their speech?
We treat ties at any age and will coordinate with a speech therapist alongside treatment when helpful.
Do you work with lactation consultants?
Yes — we’re glad to collaborate with your lactation consultant, pediatrician, or speech therapist before and after treatment.
