COMPREHENSIVE ORAL EXAMS
At your check-ups we cover every inch of your mouth to make sure dental decay has nowhere to hide! We examine your teeth, gums and jaws using special instruments and cool high-tech solutions, like DIAGNOdent, a special laser that detects even the earliest and smallest cavities. We’ll also check for gum disease and take a look at your sealants and existing fillings or crowns if you have them. We take special care to ensure the facial structure, teeth and jaws are growing and developing properly.
FULL MOUTH SERIES AND PANORAMIC X-RAYS
We don’t take x-rays at every appointment but sometimes they’ll be necessary to detect cavities, infections in the bone and the position of un-erupted teeth. We use low-dose digital x-rays to provide amazing imaging with the lowest radiation. Typically a low-dose panoramic x-ray will be taken at age six or when the permanent teeth start to come in. This policy adheres to the recommendations of the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
DENTAL OCCLUSAL ANALYSIS
Dental occlusal analysis is a really fancy way of saying we check out your bite, or the relationship between the lower and upper jaw.
Of course we’ll look inside of your mouth, which is the intraoral part, and examine your gums, tongue, throat and teeth to make sure you don’t have cavities, gum disease or other dental issues. However, we also conduct an extraoral exam, which means we check out your head and neck and make sure your development is on track.
While as dentists we do love teeth, we’re also pretty fond of healthy gums. We’ll be sure to screen for problems like periodontitis and gingivitis. Catching and treating conditions early can prevent big problems down the road.
